Kirk Lightner joined the firm on July 1, 2019, after spending the first fourteen years of his career as a defense attorney. This experience, in working for insurance companies, has gained him a unique perspective in how these companies evaluate and value personal injury claims.

Throughout his career, Kirk has handled thousands of automobile accident cases, and has tried numerous cases to verdict in courts throughout West Virginia. Kirk has forged relationships with attorneys and Judges all over West Virginia throughout his career. These relationships have helped Kirk negotiate and settle cases without the necessity of costly, and time-consuming, litigation. However, when negotiating a settlement isn’t possible, Kirk will not hesitate to litigate a case, and try the case, to verdict.

Mr. Lightner is originally from Huntington, West Virginia, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Journalism from Marshall University in 2000. After two years in the workforce, Kirk moved to Michigan to pursue his legal education at Western Michigan University. He finished his course work in two and a half years and then returned to his native Huntington to complete his externship in the spring of 2005.

Prior to joining New, Taylor & Associates, Kirk was a member at Pullin, Fowler, Flanagan, Brown & Poe, where he worked as an insurance defense attorney for ten years. Prior to that, Kirk was employed for over four years by Kesner & Kesner, where he worked for many insurance companies representing the interests of their insureds.

Mr. Lightner has vast experience in representing parties in auto accident cases, premises liability claims, deliberate intent claims, slip, trip, and fall, as well as family law cases. Mr. Lightner has also handled hundreds of minor claims and claims for wrongful death over the course of his career.

Kirk enjoys taking advantage of West Virginia’s wonderful outdoor activities when it is time to relax. He has several addicting hobbies: fly-fishing, mountain biking, skiing, and golfing.

Mr. Lightner is a member of the WV State Bar, the Kanawha County Bar Association, the West Virginia Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, and the American Trial Lawyers Association. He is licensed to practice in all courts in West Virginia, as well as in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.
